Brasstown Bald

Take Jack’s Knob Trail north from its Chattahoochee Gap intersection with the Appalachian Trail and after climbing almost 1500 feet you reach Brasstown Bald, the highest point in the state of Georgia. Now a trail, this was once the rough road built by the Civilian Conservation Corps to carry food and material to the men erecting the peak’s first structure, a fire tower. Suches is an unincorporated area in Union County in the Georgia mountains, about 2 hours north of Atlanta. With an altitude of around 3,000 ft. Suches is blessed with clean mountain air and cool temperatures, typically 5 to 8 degrees lower than Atlanta. We do get an abundance of rain in the summer and some snow in the winter. During fall, the leaves present a dazzling display of colors, orange, red, bronze, yellow and everything in between. In the summer there is a nice breeze during the day and cool nights. Opened in July 2001, The Black Forest Bear Park is a educational family exhibit located in the beautiful mountains of Helen, Georgia. The park hosts a bear exhibit, snake exhibit and the largest gift shop in Helen. Visitors may buy food trays that consist of sliced apples and bread to feed our bears. The bears enjoy interacting with people, and people… well we’re not sure which of the two enjoys interacting with the other more. Our bear friends can’t wait until they see you again!
