A time to scrub and scour an endless array of casserole dishes and the “good china” by hand.

On second thought, perhaps THIS Thanksgiving should be a time to start an entirely new tradition. Located just 45 minutes from the busy streets of downtown Atlanta, Lake Lanier Islands Resort offers an incredible opportunity to redefine Turkey Day for countless families. On Thursday, November 24 – guests are cordially invited to pass through the massive stone and timber gates of the Resort, and drive over the tranquil waters of Lanier to the lovely Legacy Lodge at the heart of the Islands. Beautifully bedecked for the holidays, the Lodge will play host to “A Legacy Thanksgiving” – a Thanksgiving Buffet like no other.

Thoughtfully crafted by Lake Lanier Islands’ team of culinary experts, this succulent spread will feature table after table of farm-to-table and seasonal fare. From sensational starters such as Thai Pumpkin Soup, Roasted Baby Pears with Herbed Goat Cheese, and Crab Crostini with Chives and Crème Fraiche to incomparable entrees such as Plum Barbequed Braised Beef Short Ribs, Seared Duck Breasts with Green Peppercorns and Brandy, Roasted Halibut, and Sweet Mustard Glazed Pork Loin Roast, no one walks away from this Thanksgiving table hungry! Lake Lanier Islands’ friendly chefs will also be manning their stations featuring carved to order Traditional Tom Turkey, Cajun Fried Turkey, Honey Glazed Smoked Ham, Roast Beef With Garlic and Thyme, and Roast Spiced Leg of Lamb. As always, there will be a special section set up with plenty of kid-friendly cuisine for even the most discerning toddler. And what would Thanksgiving be without PIE? The dessert table will boast traditional Pumpkin Pie topped with Whipped Cream and a delectable Dark Chocolate Bourbon-Pecan Tart, as well as Pumpkin Tiramisu, Chocolate Genoise with White Chocolate Caramel Drizzle, and Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.

Afterwards, guests can fill the time they WOULD be spending over a steamy sink filled with dishes touring the scenic Islands instead. If they schedule their visit just right, they can incorporate the renowned Magical Nights of Lights into their Thanksgiving plans. Imagine the memories that could be made as families while away the evening taking in over seven miles of dazzling light displays with a stop-over to the Holiday Village to visit with Santa, get dizzy on more than a dozen Carnival rides, roast marshmallows by a roaring bonfire and so much more.

If you haven’t experienced Magical Nights of Lights at Lake Lanier Islands, what’s stopping you? With over seven miles of animated holiday lights it is sure to please even the toughest Scrooge in the family. Opening November 18th 2011 and running through January 1st 2012 the lights, children and adults alike will be dazzled by the festive splendor, including The Animated Carousel, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Santa’s Elves at Work, the North Pole Express, the Animated Sliding Penguin, Jack & The Beanstalk, Medieval Times Jousting Knights, a drive through Icicle Tunnel and a stroll down Candy Cane Lane. Coca-Cola’s Santa and his elves have been hard at work this season bringing a new light to the show! Come see the special delivery from the Coca-Cola Santa!

Holiday Village is a must-see for everyone, complete with a bonfire for roasting marshmallows, delicious holiday fare, pony and amusement rides, holiday shopping and much more. Look for that perfect Christmas tree ornament to commemorate your annual visit. And what holiday spectacle would be complete without a visit with Jolly Old St. Nick? Kids of all ages can take a break from roasting marshmallows and riding ponies to have their photo taken and discuss their holiday wish lists with Santa himself at the Santa Shop. Nominal charges apply to the Santa photos, amusement rides, pony rides and marshmallow roasting.

Everyone is invited to Legacy Lodge to enjoy breakfast with Santa each Saturday and Sunday morning in December through Christmas Eve and each morning of the week immediately before Christmas. $10.00 gate fee will be refunded for all checks over $10.00 for those driving in for the event.
